New pathogenic microorganisms increase the risks in future outbreaks. Effective decontamination thus plays a key role in protecting first responders. However, current methods lack success, as they are not effective enough for highly transmissible and highly resistant pathogens that can cause large case-numbers, are difficult to disinfect from surroundings and easily cross borders.
The partners of the DEFERM research project are looking to fill this gap: We are targeting viruses and bacterial spores with a special emphasis on multiple hazards.
