Fraunhofer INT provides scientifically based assessment and consulting capabilities across the entire spectrum of technological advancement and considers their interaction with social and economic issues. On this basis, the institute conducts technology-oriented innovation research, thereby enabling long-term strategic planning of research. Fraunhofer INT implements this expertise in projects tailored to the needs of its clients.
In addition to these competencies, the institute conducts its own experimental and theoretical research on the effects of ionising and electromagnetic radiation on electronic components and systems and on radiation detection. The most important laboratory and large-scale equipment are radiation sources, electromagnetic simulation facilities and detector systems, which are not available in this combination in any other non-military facility in Germany.
For almost 50 years, Fraunhofer INT has been a reliable partner to the German Federal Ministry of Defence, providing it with advice in close cooperation and conducting research projects in the fields of technology analyses and strategic planning as well as effects of radiation.
The business area Public Technology and Innovation Planning (TIP) provides support in shaping the strategic research and innovation planning of civilian public clients. These include national and European institutions and authorities. The services provided range from advice on research design at the national/European level to strategic capability planning at the authority/organisation level. The main focus of the methodological support is in the field of disaster management and resilience research.
