International Search and Rescue Germany (ISAR) Stiftung gGmbH
Organisation
ISAR Germany has around 170 volunteers from the fields of firefighting and emergency control, emergency medicine, biological and technical tracking, logistics and disaster coordination. Since 2007, ISAR's Urban Search And Rescue (USAR) team has been the first Medium USAR team in the world to be classified by the United Nations International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG). According to the guidelines of INSARAG, ISAR Germany fulfils all requirements for an international search and rescue mission. ISAR Germany has also been classified as a WHO Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Type 1 since 2018. In the event of an emergency, ISAR Germany has the capacity to set up an emergency room in the affected area to care for up to 200 patients per day. This includes outpatient care for injuries and illnesses as well as performing minor surgeries. To care for babies, children and pregnant women in the event of a disaster, ISAR Germany's EMT has a special care unit. In addition, ISAR Germany is also active in national disaster management in some municipalities and districts in NRW.
Research
ISAR Germany has already been actively involved in national and European research consortia since the FP7 research programme. ISAR Germany is involved in three research projects as an active end user within the Horizon 2020 research programme. ISAR Germany is also involved in research projects of the European Space Agency and the Erasmus+ research programme. The main tasks within the research projects include the definition of the current and future requirements of the end users, the processing of case studies, the assessment of new technological and methodological developments and, above all, the organisation of larger technology demonstrations under realistic conditions. ISAR Germany is particularly interested in research projects related to its own field of work, as we use new technologies at an early stage in our daily work and can contribute to the further development of novel approaches and products by participating in research projects.
